About

Clay Studio Canberra is owned and operated by Joanne Searle and Sharon Craft. We are passionate about creating a welcoming space where individuals of all skill levels can explore and connect with clay in a relaxed and inspiring environment.

Our intention is to provide a range of opportunities to immerse yourself in the creative process of working with clay. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced maker, we offer a variety of experiences, including one-off clay sessions, ongoing classes, and workshops. Our offerings are designed to foster creativity, skill development, and self-expression, with a strong emphasis on enjoyment and learning.

Joanne and Sharon each hold degrees from the ANU School of Art and Design and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the studio. With a shared love for the tactile nature of clay, we are committed to fostering a supportive community where makers can explore new techniques, challenge themselves, and find joy in the art of ceramics.

Clay has the power to connect people, inspire creativity, and provide a sense of mindfulness and we are dedicated to making our studio accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

The studio

Our bespoke Ceramics Studio is located in the leafy suburb of Stirling, Canberra, offering a tranquil setting for creativity to flow. The studio is housed in a beautifully repurposed ACT school building, which was originally the potting shed used for Horticulture classes. This unique space offers the perfect environment for pottery.

The light-filled studio features 6 wheels and a large central hand-building table, providing ample space for both wheel-throwing and hand-building projects. We offer a variety of clays, giving students the freedom to experiment with different textures, colors, and surface effects to create one-of-a-kind pieces. All necessary tools and equipment are provided, ensuring that you have everything you need to bring your creative visions to life.

We look forward to welcoming you into the studio and sharing the joy of clay with you.

Clay Studio Canberra acknowledges the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people as the traditional custodians of the ACT and surrounding areas. We honour and respect their ongoing cultural and spiritual connections to this country and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region. We respect cultural heritage, customs and beliefs of all Indigenous people.
